OUTSET | nonstick coating features
Outset has teamed with Whitford Worldwide™ to develop a superior nonstick coating with lasting durability!
The nonstick coating used on our products was originally designed as a decorative coating of cookware, able to withstand extreme temperatures from heat and flame. We have taken these durability characteristics and customized our product to perfect the nonstick performance.
We impregnated the product with the highest quality silicone/polyester blend available, resulting in even greater thermal stability and superior nonstick properties. As if that were not enough, we then added a silicone oil (sort of like molasses on a cold day) to the mix. When the product is cured in our factory, the silicone oil begins to rise to the surface, which again enhances the nonstick characteristics and gives us that velvety feel! (No, the oil does not actually penetrate the surface).
Many of the competing products on the market actually use a porcelain coating for their BBQ grids and baskets. If this product flakes off into someone’s food, they will be attempting to digest glass … not recommended. Our custom coating is FDA approved! Since our custom coating is flexible, it gives us the ability to also use it on our wire baskets without the worry of it chipping away as the wires flex.
- Dishwasher use on nonstick coatings reduces the life of nonstick. However, our migrating silicone oil will rise to the surface upon each use on the grill — in effect renewing itself!
- Our custom nonstick coating does not contain PTFE... the chemical acronym for Teflon®. PTFE begins to break down at 500º and dissipates into a gas form.
